Scott "Hands of Stone" Smith

Scott Smith was born on May 21 1979 in Reno, Nevada. Freestyle fighting is the primary fighting style of this mixed martial arts fighter. He is currently associated with Capital City fighting Alliance and fights for Strikeforce. He made his debut in UFC 59 fighting at middle weight.

In his early days of career, Smith fought at heavy weight and won the fights at international Fighting Championships and Gladiator Challenge Shows pan America. World Extreme Cagefighting gave him the first serious platform to showcase his talent before that he was successful at smaller promotions only. He had only limited name recognition when he entered WEC light Heavy Weight tournament. He turned out to be the dark horse of the competition and emerged as a leader earning quite a reputation for himself from the fights.

He defeated Tim McKenzie in the semi-finals, a long time WEC veteran. Smith was to fight Justin Levens in the final tournament but Levens was advised by the doctor to opt out due to his shoulder injury he had incurred during semi-final rounds. Thus, Smith fought tournament alternate Tait Fletcher in the championship round. He scored technical knockout in the first round of the matches and won the WEC Light Heavyweight Championship.

In April 2006 was scheduled a fight at UFC 59 moving down a weight class to wrestle with David Terrell. Before that Smith would need to defend his championship from Justin Levens at WEC 18 but the fight ended in a controversially which made Smith to launch an official complaint with the California State Athletic Commission.

He lost his quarter final match against Travis Lutter as a middleweight contestant on The Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback. However, he appeared on season finale when he knocked out Pete Sell in an exciting finish of second round of the match. Before falling to the ground, he threw a bout-out punch to Pete but suffered a liver punch in the process.

At UFC 67, he lost the decision against Patrick Cote but managed to defeat Troy Miller by TKO Palace Fighting Championship 2 in Lemoore, California. He also lost against Ed Herman at UFC 72, but made his debut on February 16th at EliteXC and registered his victory by knocking out Kyle Noke. It won him a title shot against Robbie Lawler. However, he lost his subsequent re-match with him via TKO.

Scott Smith is currently unmarried and has a girlfriend. He has two sons Mike and Scotty. His one younger and an older brother also train at MMA. At, 30 years of age, Scott Smith is a well known fighter at MMA and his career continues to grow.
